[Press Release From the Campaign of Barbara Radnofsky (D-Houston) For U.S. Senate]
Democratic U.S. Senate nominee Barbara Ann Radnofsky, daughter of the former Chief of the Crew Systems at NASA, defended NASA’s needs for adequate funding in the face of NASA funding cuts which have, this week, forced the departure of 3 advisors who had protested the NASA budget cuts: one resigned by choice, and two were asked to leave.
Radnofsky said: “My opponent boasts that she brings home the bacon for Texas, which ranks 51st in per capita government largesse, behind all states and the District of Columbia. Her ability to secure legitimate, necessary funds is limited, and NASA is a sad example. With less waste of our tax dollars funding Alaskan bridges to nowhere, we’d have more money for NASA.”
“My opponent is the senior senator from Texas. She says she has power. Yet, she has presided over cutbacks that NASA advisors decry, forcing slashes to valuable programs including shuttle missions, analysis of mission data and completion of the international space station.”
“Her misplaced priorities have forced belt tightening in the wrong place for NASA, for Texas, and science on Earth. Her cuts at home preventing analysis will turn space travel into “space tourism” and a change in the NASA mission statement to eliminate learning about the Earth in which we live”.
“Sen. Hutchison should abandon the national-security-risky proposition of inviting Chinese investment in our space program. That’s bad for our economy and worse for national security.”
