Rep. Villarreal Files Legislation Promoting ‘Green’ Schools

Today State Representative Mike Villarreal (D-San Antonio) filed legislation to encourage Texas school districts to use green building standards in the construction and renovation of schools. The bill, HB 1824, increases state aid to districts that meet guidelines established by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System. LEED is sponsored by the U.S. Green Building
Council (USGBC) and has emerged as the leading standard for sustainable design.
