Austin, Texas–On Monday Senator Kevin Eltife, R-Tyler, received the “Freedom to Teach” Award from the Association of Texas Professional Educators at the Texas State Capitol.

With ATPE members gathered outside the Senate Chamber, Sen. Eltife was officially awarded the “Freedom to Teach” plaque by State President Cindy Chapman and Region 8 Director Deann Lee.

“I am honored by this award, but the real work is being done everyday in our classrooms across the state by our dedicated teachers,” Eltife said upon receiving the award.

ATPE selected Sen. Eltife because he continually stood up to protect TRS funding and benefits for our teachers.  He also fought for teachers’ pay raise and for children’s textbooks.

“I will continue to work to improve public education in our state and make sure our teachers have the tools they need teach.”
