[Press Release from Texas House Democratic Caucus]
AUSTIN– The Texas House Democratic Caucus met yesterday to elect their leadership for the 80th Legislative session.  Rep. Jim Dunnam (D-Waco) was re-elected to his third term as Chair.  The Caucus elected a new Vice-Chair, Jessica Farrar (D-Houston), who was nominated by Rep. Rick Noriega (D-Houston).  Rep. Terri Hodge (D-Dallas) and Rep. Veronica Gonzales (D-McAllen) were each re-elected to their respective roles as Treasurer and Secretary.  All of the leaders were elected unanimously.

“I appreciate the vote of confidence from my colleagues,” said Rep. Dunnam.  “House Democrats remain committed to fighting for hardworking Texas families.  We are ready to roll up our sleeves and get to work.”

Rep. Dunnam pledged to make the communications channels more effective for the 69 Democrats in the House.  The Caucus is stronger by six members this session compared to last session.

Houston legislator Jessica Farrar was elected as the new Vice-Chair.  “I’m very excited to serve as the Caucus Vice-Chair,” said Rep. Farrar.  “Texans are counting on us to improve our public schools, fix the Children’s Health Insurance Program and restore honesty and integrity to Austin.  House Democrats are ready to deliver.”

Rep. Dunnam said the House Democratic Caucus will continue to support and organize services to strengthen the position of House Democrats.

“It’s an honor to once again be the Treasurer for the House Democratic Caucus.  My colleagues and I are ready to get back to work this session on the important issues that are affecting our constituents,” said Rep. Hodge.

McAllen representative Veronica Gonzales was also excited to return to her position in the House Democratic Caucus.  Said Rep. Gonzales, “I am honored that my colleagues have shown confidence in me and I am eager to move Texas forward with good policy that benefits not only my constituents in the Rio Grande Valley, but all Texans.”
