State Representative Stephen Frost (D- Atlanta) was appointed today to serve on three key committees for the 80th Legislative Session. Rep. Frost was named Vice Chair of the Border and International Affairs Committee. He will continue to serve on the Committee on Law Enforcement and in addition Frost was named to the Committee on Redistricting.
“It is an honor to be appointed to these key House Committees,†said Rep. Frost. “As the Representative for House District 1, I appreciate this opportunity to work on law enforcement, redistricting and border issues. These committees handle issues of good government, prevention of crime, and maintaining good relations with our border neighbors.”
“Serving on the Law Enforcement Committee enables me to continue to work closely with the state’s law enforcement officers,” said Frost, who will be serving his second term on the committee. “I look forward to helping our sheriffs and police departments make sure they have what they need to keep our homes and families safe.”
The Law Enforcement Committee is responsible for matters pertaining to the prevention of crime and the apprehension of criminals. The committee has oversight of several state agencies, including the Department of Public Safety.
Rep. Frost will serve as Vice Chair of the Border and International Affairs Committee. The Committee oversees economic development, tourism, public health and safety issues in the Texas-Mexico border region and the Texas-Louisiana Border region. The Texas-Louisiana Border region runs for more than 50 miles between the two states, and includes Bowie, Cass, Marion and Morris counties.
“As Vice Chair, I welcome this opportunity to work with the Chairman and my fellow colleagues to see that the Texas-Louisiana Border region has its concerns heard in Austin.”
The Redistricting Committee has jurisdiction over matters pertaining to changes to legislative, congressional and other political subdivision’s districts and preparation for that process.
“Our state needs districts which reflect the will of the unique communities we have in Texas,” noted Frost. “I will work to ensure we have a redistricting process that puts people before partisanship.”
“Thousands of pieces of legislation will be filed by the Legislature this session. Our committee process enables us to study and recommend bills for a vote on the House Floor,” said Rep. Frost. “Working on these committees helps me to better serve the people of Bowie, Cass, Marion and Morris Counties.”
