REP. MADDEN RE-APPOINTED AS CHAIR OF CORRECTIONS

(AUSTIN) – Today, Speaker Tom Craddick (R-Midland) named Rep. Jerry Madden (R-Richardson) as Chairman of the Corrections Committee, and as a member of the Civil Practices Committee.
“I am honored by the confidence the Speaker has placed in me and I feel that the Corrections Committee is one of the most important committee assignments for the 80th Legislature. We have many critical issues to deal with including the overload on our prison system.” Madden said. “We have taken a lead in looking for alternatives to very costly prison building and we have significant work ahead of us. I look forward to working with the other committee members during what should be a superb session”.
Speaker Craddick spent weeks meeting with the members and carefully deliberating the assignments. “Jerry’s experience with correctional matters is invaluable to this committee,†Craddick said. “I have confidence that he will continue doing an excellent job as chair.”
The Corrections Committee oversees incarceration and rehabilitation programs and facilities. The Civil Practices Committee oversees fines and penalties under civil law, civil procedure in state courts and holds permission to sue the state.
During the 79th Session, Rep. Madden served as Chair of the Corrections Committee, and as a member of the Civil Practices Committee.
