REP. ROB ORR NAMED VICE-CHAIRMAN OF LAND & RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

AUSTIN - State Representative Rob Orr, R-Burleson, has been appointed vice-chairman of the Land and Resource Management Committee of the Texas House of Representatives, by Speaker Tom Craddick. Chairman of the Committee is Rep. Anna Mowery, R-Fort Worth.

Land and Resource Management is the committee that is charged with oversight of such areas as private property rights, eminent domain, annexation and issues affecting rural areas of the state. It also has jurisdiction over the School Land Board, the Board for Lease of University Lands, the Coastal Coordination Council, the Office of Rural Community Affairs, and the General Land Office.

“I am very excited to be named vice-chairman of this important committee, Rep. Orr said. I have a major interest in each of these areas.”

Rep. Orr served as a member of Land and Resource Committee during his first term of office.

In addition to the vice-chairmanship, Rep. Orr was appointed to the Financial Institutions Committee, chaired by Rep. Burt Solomons, R-Carrollton. The Financial Institutions Committee has jurisdiction over banking, savings and loan associations, credit unions, lending of money and regulation of state and local bonded indebtedness. The state agencies it oversees are the Finance Commission of Texas, Credit Union Commission, Office of Consumer Credit Commissioner, Office of Banking Commissioner, Texas Department of Banking, Savings and Loan Department of Texas, Texas Treasury Safekeeping Trust Company, Texas Public Finance Authority, and the Bond Review Board.

“I appreciate the confidence and support that Speaker Craddick has shown by appointing me to these important committees. I look forward to working with the Speaker, Chairmen Mowery and Solomons and other committee members on behalf of my district and the State of Texas,” Rep. Orr said.
